We, at the Randall Law Firm, are aware that the issues involved in family court matters are sensitive and generally have numerous permutations.  Typical issues include custody (joint or sole), scheduling visitation, arranging who provides transportation, relocation issues and child support.  In New York, the parties must be apprised of the provisions of the New York Child Support Standards Act.  We provide each client with a copy of the Act, explain the calculations and review the additional items that may be applicable, such as the costs of daycare, education and medical insurance.  If the parties cannot resolve these issues themselves or through mediation or negotiation the parties should avail themselves of the Family Court.

Since many inquires we receive concern calculating child support, we have provided the following link to the official New York State Child Support Standards tables, www.newyorkchildupport.com published by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Division of Child Support Enforcement.  Go to the “quick links”, click on “child support standards” and view the child support standards chart for 2009 (PDF).  Before using the charts, if you are self-employed, reduce your gross pay by (FICA) which is 15.3% of your gross income, and if you are employed, reduce your gross pay by (FICA) which is 7.65% of your gross income.
